Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads NASCAR Sprint Cup points standings

Earnhardt finishes second in the Auto Club 400 at Fontana for his fifth top-10 finish in as many races this season.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. still hasn't won at Auto Club Speedway, but he left the Fontana track Sunday leading the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings.

Earnhardt finished second in the Auto Club 400 after the last-lap crash knocked out leaders Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin, giving Earnhardt his fifth top-10 finish in as many races this season.

"I was just glad to get through" the wreck "and get a good run," Earnhardt said. "We had a good car all day."

Earnhardt started 15th and struggled at times but rebounded in the closing stages after his Hendrick Motorsports team made adjustments to his No. 88 Chevrolet.

That continued a pattern of "closing races" with strong finishes, "something I never really was good at for years, and now we're doing it as good as anybody," he said.

Earnhardt leads reigning Cup champion Brad Keselowski by 12 points in the title standings. Keselowski finished 23rd.

Five-time champion and Earnhardt teammate Jimmie Johnson is third in the standings, 16 points behind Earnhardt, after finishing 12th.

Patrick's long day
Danica Patrick spent much of the Auto Club 400 in 30th place or worse, but she climbed a few spots near the end to finish 26th, one lap behind the leaders.

"The car started off a little bit loose, but once we dialed that in, it was decent," she said of her No. 10 Chevrolet that's prepared by Stewart-Haas Racing, which is co-owned by three-time Cup champion Tony Stewart.

Patrick, who started 40th, said, "We made some big improvements" to the car during the race. "We all want better than 26th," she said, "and it will be better next time."

Busch's sweep

Kyle Busch's win Sunday was the first Cup victory at Auto Club Speedway for his Joe Gibbs Racing team and for Toyota.

The victory also gave Busch a sweep of the weekend; he won the Nationwide Series race at Fontana on Saturday.

"Being right here in California, finally we get a home win for Toyota," which has major facilities in Torrance and Costa Mesa, Busch said.

I made contact with the internet sales department via e-mail and within minutes I had a reply. They answered my questions and followed up on my inquiries. The following weekend after initial contact I made a 60 mile trip to Rotolo Chevrolet to purchase my new 2013 Chevy Malibu. I was greeted by courteous staff and Lucy from the internet sales department took care of me. The Finance manager was also very attentive and understood my needs. The service persona that helped me activate Onstar was also very friendly and professional. I am really happy with my purchase from Rotolo, I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

We had a phenomenal experience working with Danielle York through Costco's car buying program. Danielle went out of her way to find exactly the car we were looking for, even going so far as to track it down in Southern California. She was very honest and straightforward throughout the entire process. Danielle emphasized making that personal connection and when a salesperson puts that ahead of trying to sell a car she has made a customer for life!

Chevy Performance to Offer Camaro Chassis at $55,000

Just the Facts:

  • Chevrolet Performance will offer a limited number of Camaro rolling chassis, certified for drag-racing by the NHRA.
  • The price of the race-ready chassis will be $55,000, and sales begin Thursday at noon EST.
  • Each specially numbered chassis will be hand-assembled at the same plant that makes Chevy's COPO Camaro production race cars.

DETROIT — Chevrolet Performance will offer a limited number of Camaro rolling chassis, certified for drag-racing by the NHRA, for $55,000. Sales begin Thursday, March 28, at noon EST.

Jim Campbell, GM's U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, said: "This is a great opportunity to buy a factory-built foundation for a competitive Camaro race car, saving racers the time of building their own from the ground up and offering them the opportunity to compete with a piece of Chevrolet history, because we're only going to build a few of them."

The price will include NHRA-approved safety equipment, racing chassis, suspension components, brakes, and solid rear axle. The package also features racing seats, switch panel, Bogart racing wheels, and Hoosier tires.

All the cars will be painted Summit White, with a production Camaro hood and SS grille, standard window glass, lights, instrument panel, steering wheel, door panels, headliner, carpeting, and basic body and chassis wiring.

Not included are items like the engine and transmission, engine mounts, air intake system, coolant hoses, exhaust system, and driveshaft. Customers can complete the car with their own components or buy compatible parts from Chevrolet Performance.

GM says various high-performance power plants can be purchased from Chevrolet Performance, including a 350-cubic-inch engine rated at 325 horsepower, a 396 with 375 hp, and a 427 with 425 hp. Also available are supercharged crate engines, like a 327-cubic-incher with a 2.9-liter supercharger and a 327 with a 4.0-liter supercharger.

Each rolling chassis will be hand-assembled at the same plant in Oshawa, Ontario, that builds Chevrolet's COPO Camaro production race cars. Although each will have a unique serial number, none of the chassis will carry Vehicle Identification Numbers, so they can't be titled or licensed for street use.

To order yours today, call 1-800-306-3005. GM says customers will be sent a purchase certificate, which can then be taken to a local Chevy dealership where the sale can be completed. Final delivery must be taken in the Detroit area.

We just purchased a 2013 Chevy Equinox from Rotolo and have to say they are dealing and will give you a great price. Sal our sales man did not even flinch when I asked for my price which was way below all the other dealers so called invoice price and just said yes I can do that. They have huge inventory and everyone was pleasantly nice. I am never a fan of any dealer really, they do their best to sell you the most no biggie I expect that. Would be nice if for someone who knows exactly what they want and could care less about the car buying experience to be able to expedite the purchasing process. As a cash buyer it still took 3 hours to get out the door with my new ride. Know what you want and what is a reasonably priced deal, bring your own financing and I am sure Sal will take good care of you like he did me.

Chevrolet's Top 10 Racing Moments

How do you sum up a century of racing greatness?

It wasn’t easy. After all, 100 years is a long time. Especially with an international motorsports heritage as storied as ours. So, after much thought. And much discussion. And maybe a spirited fistfight or two, we finally whittled down an encyclopedia’s worth of success to the top 10 defining moments in Chevrolet racing history. The hard, fast proof that Chevy Runs Deep.

#10 | Zora’s wild ride

1956: To publicize the ’56 Chevy’s new V8, Zora-Arkus Duntov, father of the Corvette, agreed to race an as-yet-unrevealed preproduction model in the annual Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Assaulting the treacherous course in full camouflage without a roll bar, he not only won his class, he set a new record and catapulted Chevy into the postwar performance spotlight.

#9 | The Chaparral Can Ams

1964-70: In 1964, Jim Hall, with covert assistance from Chevrolet Research and Development, shocked race-sanctioning bodies and forever changed the motorsports world. His incredibly innovative designs, incorporating high mounted wings, movable aero packages, underbody suction fans and more, dominated the Can Am circuit, snatching victory at the USRRC Championships in ’64, the 12 Hours of Sebring in ’65, and the Nurburgring 1,000-kilometer in ’66. Following a stunning 1-2 finish at Laguna Seca, race officials finally caught up to the Chaparrals, spelling the beginning of the end for the program. Gone, but not forgotten, the Chaparral spirit lives on in every Cruze Eco we build.

#8 | Victory is electric

1997-99: Echoing Zora Arkus-Duntov’s dramatic test run in ’56, Larry Ragland made history driving a special Chevy S-10 to victory at the 1997 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. This time, without using a single drop of gas. Not content with taking the Electric Vehicle Class, sounding the death knell for oil and changing the world, Larry went on to prove the viability of electric power − and lay the groundwork for the Chevy Volt − with wins in the 1998-99 Super Stock Truck Class and overall victory in the 2000 High Tech Truck Class.

#7 | Cruze crushes WTCC

2010: In a shocking departure from Chevy’s signature large displacement V8s, the Cruze made its presence known at the World Touring Car Championship in 2010. After a season dominating BMWs around the globe, Chevrolet scored a devastating one-two punch − seizing both the Driver’s Championship and the Manufacturer’s Championship. Proving that, yes, there just might be a replacement for displacement.

#6 | Dale Earnhardt Sr. wins the Daytona 500

1998: After 19 years of chasing the checkered flag at the beach, Dale Sr. finally conquered the Daytona 500, recording his first and only victory in the “Great American Race.” The scene that followed is widely considered to be one of the most touching moments in sports history, as crews and competitors alike lined Pit Road to shake his hand on the long, slow drive to Victory Lane.

#5 | Corvette versus the World

2008: Corvette slayed the monsters − BMW, Ferrari and Porsche − to seize its eighth consecutive Manufacturer’s Championship, making it the most successful team in American Le Mans Series history and conveniently placing Chevrolet in the crosshairs of global competition.

#4 | Jimmie Johnson takes Five

2010: After making a habit of winning in everything from stadium S-10s to off-road Silverados, Jimmie Johnson rode Chevy V8 power to an unprecedented five consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Driver’s Championships − the first driver ever to do so. Leaving some to wonder, was it the man? Or the machine?

#3 | Impala meets Daytona

1959: On February 20, the now-legendary Impala locked in its first-ever win in its first-ever race. Guided by Bob Welborn’s steady hand and lead foot, the checkered flag started a trend of Daytona dominance for Chevrolet that continues to this day.

#2 | Mr. Corvette goes to France

1960: Because of an unofficial ban on factory racing at the time, legendary sportsman Briggs Cunningham introduced Corvette to the continent. In its international debut, Corvette ruled the “Big Bore” GT category, scoring the first-ever Chevrolet victory at Le Mans − a winning tradition proudly continued today, most recently with a spectacular GTE Pro class trophy at the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race.

#1 | The race that started it all

1907: Legend has it that William “Billy” Durant, founder of General Motors, invited Louis Chevrolet and his younger brother Arthur to race for the honor of being his personal chauffeur. Louis, already an international racing sensation, easily blew away Arthur. Stunned by Louis’ seemingly complete disregard for personal safety, Billy handed the prized job to Arthur on the spot. Even so, Louis won in the long run. A few short years later, with Billy’s enthusiastic backing, the first Chevrolet was born. The rest, as they say, is history.

The COPO Is Back!

If you still dream of having a COPO Camaro in your garage, now is the time to get excited. For 2013, Chevrolet Performance is making another run of 69 of the strip-shredder, and there are some exciting new features that will appeal to the hard-core racers.

First we'll get into what we're sure is your biggest question, the engines. This year will see three engines like last year, but in different configurations. The wildly popular 427 stays and gets the biggest spotlight. Which is good, considering over half of last year's 69 examples were ordered with the big V-8. This year it stays at 425 horsepower. A new entry-level LS-based 350 rated at 325 horsepower also joins the roster. But what sits in the middle is the real newsmaker. Fans who were around in 1969 to see the release of the original Camaro will wax nostalgic over the final configuration, an LS-based 396-cu.-in. big-block engine, making the same 375 horsepower it did under the hood of the 1969 Camaros. New for 2013 is a standard Holley EFI controller on all configurations, which pays a nice homage to the Holley carburetors every 1969 COPO Camaro came with as standard. All three engines are hand-built and are still LS-based, so tried-and-true tuning will work just the same on the familiar architecture, making it easy to set up your COPO to run down the competition.

The big news is what bolts to the engine's output, however. While the 2-speed automatic transmission carries over from the 2012 model, there will be an optional manual transmission available for the 2013 cars, allowing you to row the gears yourself.

In all, every configuration is good for a wide variety of NHRA Stock Eliminator classes. With a portfolio of engines as diverse as the COPO, the 427, 396, and 350 allow the car to run in any Stock Eliminator class from E all the way up to AA, needing only curb weight adjustments for each configuration to see itself in any of three classes.

On the outside, we see five colors available that were offered on the 2012 car - Summit White, Victory Red, Ashen Gray Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, and Black. Several exterior changes will help you distinguish 2013 cars from 2012s, including a revised front-end appearance sporting halogen headlamps and the Chevrolet Accessories body-color Heritage grille, as well as updated optional COPO graphics.
