1,000 hp Chevrolet Corvette Stingray in the works

 Well that was fast.

At least it will be.

Just weeks after its introduction at the Detroit Auto Show, Hennessey Performance has announced plans to boost the power of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to an astounding 1,000 hp.

While the factory Stingray will have a naturally aspirated 450 hp 6.2-liter V8 under the hood when it goes on sale this summer, the Hennessey package adds twin turbochargers, an intercooler, high-flow cylinder heads, a custom cat-back exhaust system and a host of other refinements topped off by a 1 year, 12,000 mile warranty and a set of Hennessey premium floormats.

Hennessey offers a similar upgrade for the existing Corvette, and the price for the modifications on the Stingray is $69,500 on top of the expected $55,000 cost of the car. Althought that might seem like a lot, the current top of the line Corvette ZR1 retails for about $124,000 and has a relatively measly 638 hp.

Hennessey tells FoxNews.com it already has two orders, but for those who can live without four-digit horsepower numbers, it is also offering a lower-priced 800 hp version, as well as 700 hp and 600 hp supercharged packages.

2014 Chevrolet SS revealed at Daytona

Super Sport. Spiritual Successor. Serious Speed. Whatever SS means to you, it spells performance for Chevrolet -- and after 17 years, a rear-wheel-drive V8 sedan is back in the bowtie brand's lineup.

It's called simply the SS. The sporting machine was unveiled this weekend as part of festivities ahead of the Daytona 500 later this month.

Like the Impala SS of the mid-'90s, the 2014 model adopts its eight-cylinder power from the Corvette. In SS trim, it produces 415 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque from the 6.2-liter (376 cubic inches) LS3 engine used in the 2013 Corvette. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles and can sprint to 60 mph in five seconds. No manual transmission will be offered. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

The SS is underpinned by General Motors' global rear-drive chassis. The SS uses a MacPherson strut front and multilink rear suspension geometry. The platform is also used in various forms by the Camaro, Caprice police car and Holden's VF Commodore. The SS will be assembled at a Holden factory in Elizabeth, Australia.

The famous SS badge has been worn on a variety of Chevy vehicles since the early 1960s, from sedans to pickups. The Impala, Chevelle, Camaro and Malibu were particularly appropriate canvases, though Novas and TrailBlazers have also used it.

The SS gets wheels that measure 19-by-8.5 inches in front and 19-by-9 inches in rear. The forged aluminum wheels are wrapped in performance Bridgestone tires. The SS has electronic power steering and Brembo brakes.

Design wise, the most sporting Chevy sedan is rather understated. It uses an aluminum hood and rear deck in place of steel panels, and the wheels are pushed to the corners. The body is accented with chrome and fronted by high intensity discharge headlights and LED running lamps.

The cabin seats five and is marked by SS badging and ambient lighting. A full-color touchscreen, nine-speaker audio system, push-button start and blind-spot detector are standard equipment. The SS is also the first Chevy with available automatic parking assist.

In a statement, GM North America president Mark Reuss said, "The Chevrolet brand was largely built on the strength of rear-drive performance sedans, yet it's been 17 years since we've offered one. The all-new Chevrolet SS fills that void and fills it better than any other vehicle in the brand's rich history."

Chevy 'Sparking' Interest In Younger Demographic

Mini car attracting one in two buyers from non-GM brands

DETROIT – Early buyer data for the Chevrolet Spark shows that 29 percent of buyers are under 35, more than half are coming from non-General Motors’ brands, and price is a big selling point.

According to Chevy Spark early buyer data, Spark owners are:
  • The next-generation customer – Spark is “igniting” the interest of some of Chevrolet’s youngest buyers, with 29 percent of customers under 35.
  • New to Chevy – Nearly 54 percent of Spark purchases are conquest sales – buyers who are new to the brand. More than one in five buyers is coming from an import car brand.
  • Majority female – Fifty-one percent of Sparks are purchased by women, more than any other Chevrolet vehicle.
  • Sizzling with Salsa – Twenty-three percent of Spark owners are choosing Salsa Red, making it the Spark’s most popular exterior color. Jalapeno Green and Denim Blue are the second- and third-most popular Spark colors.
  • Seeking a value and fuel economy – Early Spark owners indicate their most important reasons for purchasing a Spark were fuel economy and price to value.
Chevrolet dealers have sold more than 12,000 Sparks since it went on sale in the summer of 2012. Originally launched in 18 markets, the Spark will be available in all 50 states in 2013.
The 2013 Chevrolet Spark, a four-passenger, five-door hatchback, was designed to challenge what’s possible in the mini car segment. Spark is the only car in its segment to provide MyLink Radio – a seven-inch color touch screen radio capable of displaying smartphone-based music, videos, photos and contacts for hands-free calling.

The Spark has the lowest starting MSRP in the mini care segment, and offers competitive EPA-estimated fuel economy of 38 mpg highway.

Though small on the outside, Spark offers more passenger and cargo room than other mini cars, with 225 percent more cargo room than a Scion iQ and 20 percent more than a Fiat 500.

Launched in Korea in 2009 and now available in almost every country in the world, the Spark came to the U.S. market is in response to the growing popularity of mini cars among U.S. consumers.

Expanding the Spark lineup, the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV is designed to make the trip as electrifying as the destination. It will be priced under $25,000 with tax incentives and will be available in California, Oregon, Canada, South Korea and other global markets.
