Chevy is winningest name in motorsport, clinching NASCAR, IndyCar, ALMS, GRAND-AM and Pirelli World Challenge titles
Chevrolet was the
most successful name in professional motorsports in the United States
this year, capturing 14 manufacturer, driver and team championships in
NASCAR, IndyCar, ALMS, GRAND-AM and the Pirelli World Challenge series.
Chevrolet
will kick off the 2014 season with the debut of the all-new Corvette
C7.R at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new
Corvette race car, wearing an updated “Jake” mascot, will make its
competition debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Jan. 25-26, 2014.
“We
had an amazing year in 2013, winning more championships in professional
motorsport than any other manufacturer,” said Jim Campbell, General
Motors’ U.S. vice president, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Our
success was the direct result of considerable preparation, strategy,
teamwork and great drive from our teams, drivers, and partners in open
wheel, stock car, and sports car racing. We are looking forward to
continuing that momentum for 2014.”
GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson to give truck to Achilles Freedom Team
During
Saturday’s 114th Army-Navy Game, GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson will
present a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country 1500 crew cab pickup
truck to the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
The
truck will be used to haul hand cycles and equipment to Walter
Reed-Bethesda Naval Center for athlete training, and to regional
competitions.
Chevrolet has been the Official Vehicle of the Army-Navy Game since 2010 and recently extended its support through 2016.
“This
Silverado is capable of amazing things, but I can’t think of a higher
calling for it than helping wounded veterans rebuild their lives,” said
Akerson.
Through the Achilles Freedom Team, more than 1,000
veterans disabled in war are overcoming life-threatening injuries by
participating in marathons and other athletic feats. Members set goals
and train in hand cycles or on their prosthetics, and compete as a team
in mainstream road races and marathons around the country and
internationally.
Achilles International founder Dick Traum and Achilles team members will accept the keys to the truck.
“Thanks
in part to Chevrolet’s generosity, our team members are rechanneling
their competitive spirit and proving that there is life after a
devastating injury,” said Traum.
Most-capable Corvette ever will lead industry’s broadest range of performance cars
Chevrolet will
introduce the 2015 Corvette Z06 next month at the North American
International Auto Show in Detroit. It will be the most track-capable
Corvette ever, designed to deliver supercar levels of performance
through unique powertrain, chassis and aerodynamic features.
The
Corvette Z06 will complete Chevrolet’s performance car lineup, which
will also see the addition of the Corvette Stingray Convertible, Camaro
Z/28 and SS sedan.
“Chevrolet is America’s favorite performance
car brand, and for 2014 we are going to offer enthusiasts more choices
than ever before,” said Alan Batey, senior vice president, Global
Chevrolet. “No other manufacturer will be able to match the breath of
performance cars from Chevrolet.”
