Tahoe and Suburban models achieve nearly 10 percent gain on highway
The new 2015
full-size SUVs from Chevrolet go farther on a tank of gas than outgoing
models, raising highway fuel economy by nearly 10 percent.
The
Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL with the
standard 5.3L engine get an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg
on the highway with two-wheel drive – a nearly 10 percent increase in
highway mileage over the previous models and 7 percent greater city
mileage.
New era begins at Daytona with IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge
The Chevrolet
Camaro Z/28 returns to its racing roots this week when the all-new
Camaro Z/28.R race car debuts in a 2.5-hour endurance race ahead of the
52nd Rolex 24 At Daytona. It will be one of the most production-based
competitors on the track, sharing aero, engine and even axle components
with the new 2014 Camaro Z/28.
Stevenson Motorsports and CKS
Autosport will campaign Z/28.R race cars in the GS class of the IMSA
Continental Tires SportsCar Challenge. The Daytona race begins at 1:45
p.m. EST, on Friday, Jan. 24, kicking off the 12-race 2014 season.
“The
original Camaro Z/28 was designed for racing and became an iconic
performance car through its hard-fought victories,” said Mark Kent,
director of racing for Chevrolet. “A new chapter in racing begins this
week, as the new Camaro Z/28 makes its competition debut in one of the
most hotly contested series in motorsports.”

This week
Chevrolet introduced the most track-capable Corvette in the brand’s
history – the 2015 Corvette Z06. It stretches the performance envelope
for Corvette with unprecedented levels of aerodynamic downforce, at
least 625 horsepower from an all-new supercharged engine, and an
all-new, high-performance eight-speed automatic transmission – all
building on the advanced driver technologies introduced on the Corvette
Stingray.
“The new Z06 delivers levels of performance,
technology and design that rival the most exotic supercars in the
world,” said Mark Reuss, president, General Motors North America. “And
the Z06 leverages the engineering expertise of GM, offering the choice
of two world-class transmissions, supercar performance without supercar
fuel consumption and technologies that make it easier to fully enjoy the
incredible experience of driving it.”
The 2015 model is the
first Corvette Z06 to offer a supercharged engine, an automatic
transmission and, thanks to a stronger aluminum frame, a removable roof
panel. The new, supercharged 6.2L engine is expected to deliver at least
625 horsepower (466 kW), and can be matched with either a seven-speed
manual or an all-new, high-performance eight-speed automatic
transmission with paddle shifters for manual control. The aluminum frame
carries over from the Corvette Stingray and will be used essentially
unchanged for the Corvette Racing C7.R.
A track-focused Z07
Performance Package adds unique components for true aerodynamic
downforce, Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires for enhanced grip, and
Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors that improve braking
performance and contribute to greater handling through reduced unsprung
weight. Although development testing is ongoing, the Z07 package has
already recorded some of the fastest lap times ever for a Corvette,
surpassing even the ZR1.
“The Corvette Z06 is a great example of
the technology transfer between racing and production Corvettes,” said
Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “First, we took what we learned
on the Corvette Racing C6.R and applied that to the all-new Corvette
Stingray. Then, using the Stingray as a foundation, the Z06 and C7.R
were developed to push the envelope of performance on the street and the
track.”

Chevy is winningest name in motorsport, clinching NASCAR, IndyCar, ALMS, GRAND-AM and Pirelli World Challenge titles
Chevrolet was the
most successful name in professional motorsports in the United States
this year, capturing 14 manufacturer, driver and team championships in
NASCAR, IndyCar, ALMS, GRAND-AM and the Pirelli World Challenge series.
Chevrolet
will kick off the 2014 season with the debut of the all-new Corvette
C7.R at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new
Corvette race car, wearing an updated “Jake” mascot, will make its
competition debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Jan. 25-26, 2014.
“We
had an amazing year in 2013, winning more championships in professional
motorsport than any other manufacturer,” said Jim Campbell, General
Motors’ U.S. vice president, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Our
success was the direct result of considerable preparation, strategy,
teamwork and great drive from our teams, drivers, and partners in open
wheel, stock car, and sports car racing. We are looking forward to
continuing that momentum for 2014.”
GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson to give truck to Achilles Freedom Team
During
Saturday’s 114th Army-Navy Game, GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson will
present a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country 1500 crew cab pickup
truck to the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
The
truck will be used to haul hand cycles and equipment to Walter
Reed-Bethesda Naval Center for athlete training, and to regional
competitions.
Chevrolet has been the Official Vehicle of the Army-Navy Game since 2010 and recently extended its support through 2016.
“This
Silverado is capable of amazing things, but I can’t think of a higher
calling for it than helping wounded veterans rebuild their lives,” said
Akerson.
Through the Achilles Freedom Team, more than 1,000
veterans disabled in war are overcoming life-threatening injuries by
participating in marathons and other athletic feats. Members set goals
and train in hand cycles or on their prosthetics, and compete as a team
in mainstream road races and marathons around the country and
internationally.
Achilles International founder Dick Traum and Achilles team members will accept the keys to the truck.
“Thanks
in part to Chevrolet’s generosity, our team members are rechanneling
their competitive spirit and proving that there is life after a
devastating injury,” said Traum.
Most-capable Corvette ever will lead industry’s broadest range of performance cars
Chevrolet will
introduce the 2015 Corvette Z06 next month at the North American
International Auto Show in Detroit. It will be the most track-capable
Corvette ever, designed to deliver supercar levels of performance
through unique powertrain, chassis and aerodynamic features.
The
Corvette Z06 will complete Chevrolet’s performance car lineup, which
will also see the addition of the Corvette Stingray Convertible, Camaro
Z/28 and SS sedan.
“Chevrolet is America’s favorite performance
car brand, and for 2014 we are going to offer enthusiasts more choices
than ever before,” said Alan Batey, senior vice president, Global
Chevrolet. “No other manufacturer will be able to match the breath of
performance cars from Chevrolet.”
